What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct primary health care system and it can also be integrated with other medical philosophies in order to best meet your health care needs.

Philosophy
The fundamental philosophy is to treat people by removing the person's health disturbances, which are causing the set of symptoms, the disease. These disturbances are unique to each person and, as a result, the treatment is always tailored to treat the individual.

Disease is not a state, nor is it a person's health. Both are fluid, dynamic flow of fluctuations that are influenced every day and illness becomes noticeable when symptoms appear.

The aim is to restore the body's natural physiology through the removal of these health disturbances. This provides the conditions for the body to heal itself.

Dr. Derek Cook offers a general family practice:
Your time with him will include an in-depth health history, physical examination, assessment, laboratory testing en-route to diagnosis.

Using naturopathic philosophies, your causes of illness will be addressed through sound medical knowledge and intuitive, as well as, creative thinking, the science and art of medicine. You will be given the space and time to really ask your health related questions in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. This is your time to find your healing potential.

Who is Dr. Derek Cook, ND?
Derek graduated in 1998 from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo with a double major degree in biology and chemistry.

After graduating, he worked as a formulator and product development chemist for a pharmaceutical company for 5 years. It became clear to him after a few years that the overall pharmaceutical ideation of health did not match his personal views. At the same time, he began to suffer severe debilitating seasonal allergies and found no solutions, with numerous visits to the medical doctor.

While searching for both a solution to his allergies and a new career, he found one path to address both, Naturopathic Medicine. In 2007, he graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.

He has also completed a year of extensive training in Auriculatherapy, Auricular Medicine and Bioenergetic Medicine with Dr. Mikheal Adams, who has been practicing for over 30 years.
